Pure Heart
Teaching Series: Enlarging My Heart
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (Proverbs 4:23)
“Above all else, guard your heart.” Protect your heart. Make sure that your heart is right. Why? Because your heart affects everything that you do. Proverbs 27 says, “As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man” (v. 19). What is in your heart reflects who you are as a person.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (Psalm 51:10)
God desires to transform you from the inside out. He desires to develop within you a pure heart. How does God develop a pure heart in me? How does he take anything that is impure and make it pure?
Admit My Heart is Impure
“Who can say, ‘I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin’?” (Proverbs 20:9). “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “For the wages of sin is death …” (Romans 6:23). “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8).
Believe God can Purify My Heart
“… but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ says the Lord, ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool’” (Isaiah 1:18).
Commit My Heart Fully to God
“Even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference” (Romans 3:22). “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20). “Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully” (Psalm 24:3-4).
