Teaching Series: Making Wise Choices
God’s Word is the foundation for making wise choices. God’s Word will produce a life that cannot be stopped, a life that cannot fail. God’s Word will produce the life that you were created to live. God’s Word will change you from the inside out. So then …
Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! (Proverbs 3:5-7)
What are your habits?
We are the sum total of our habits. Who ever you are in character is a result of who you are in habits. Whatever we spend our time practicing usually develops into a habit, and then it forms our life. Habits don’t just show up out of nowhere. They are created through the choices that we have made throughout our lifetime.
How do I get out of bad habits?
Therefore I exhort you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice – alive, holy, and pleasing to God – which is your reasonable service. Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God – what is good and well-pleasing and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)
To change your habits, you are going to have to change your mindset. You cannot do something without the mindset to do it. Every deliverance from bad habits starts from a transformation of your thinking. Change the way you think to line up with God’s Word.
Live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)
God didn’t say to try to fix the bad stuff. God said to do what’s right and that will fix what’s wrong. Get involved in God’s Word and the Word will take care of whatever opposes the Word. You got to get the old out, but replace it with something “good and well-pleasing and perfect” (Romans 12:2).
What habits does God require from me?
We’re not talking about legalism, but developing godly habits.
